Sometimes Things Aren't What They Seem

Earlier this year, on a trip with Steve, I commented on the "rude" road signs I kept seeing along the highways of Georgia. I guess I was feeling a little vulnerable and it truely slanted my view. I just thought that the picture was showing a saggy- chested person in a seat belt reminder! Steve about split as he showed me I was actually looking at the shape of the STATE of GEORGIA! Whew! I had to call my friend, Ruth (who lives in Georgia) immediately...and share the laugh. Sometimes things just aren't what they seem and sometimes people aren't trying to be rude, but our own perceptions can get in the way. If we can keep a good sense of humor wrapped around us, it'll make our traveling life's highways a much smoother trip. So find something to laugh about....even if it's you.

Got a Closet?

One of my fun things to do is to really sort through a closet, storage box, or drawer. There is just something so SATISFYING about the process of healthy purging! If this is totally distressing to you...start small, with a drawer. Get some boxes, bins or big sacks and GO TO IT! Sort into keep, toss, donate, and sell and ask yourself these helpful questions:

Do I love it?

Do I wear it? /Do I use it?

Does it fit?

Is it still in fashion?

Does it go with anything else I own?

Does it make me feel good?

Now move on to part two:

Can somebody else make use of it? Can I sell it?

Can I donate it to a worthy cause?

If I didn't have it already, would I want to buy it?

Is it too small? Too large? Needing repair?

Why am I keeping this?

It's suprising, but it feels good to send something packing. When something's hard to get rid of, maybe it's an investment or sentimental object or it's you wanting to be a different size or a different age or in a different life, but the minute you decide to toss it, you can feel the weight lift off your shoulders. So friends, open the drawer, get tossing and make room for all the good stuff coming your way!

Empty Nest (sort of)

It's that time again --- there's a hint of coolness in the air, the kids were all gathered at the bus stop at the corner, and suddenly, my house is quiet. It's odd how fast it happened. And this year, the boys are all beyond my help with homework and I only had ONE medical form to fill out! Halleluhah!! All those years ranting about the need for schools to update their system for first of the year forms and now I don't have any! Instead I have plenty of time on my hands to use wisely. So I'm thinking...what will I do first? I have LOTS of ideas. I will begin with a list. Starting with all those things I thought I would get accomplished over the summer! Wish me luck! Cleaning, painting, cleaning, gardening, cleaning, cooking, cleaning.....etc....

What are YOU doing this season? Join me in cleaning and re-feathering the nest! It's time!

Simply Said......

"Behold!"

Life is a Series of Tiny Events

Life is a series of tiny events --- "Every day, thousands of tiny events happen and if you're not watching, if you're not careful, if you don't capture them and make them count, you could miss it.
You could miss your whole life." (Addition by Toni Jordan). What a scary thought! I've had days like that though, where I really wasn't invested. Knowing that the responsibility for living this life with verve...feasting or neglect, is actually up to me...sets me back a little. At the same time, I feel empowered to really reach out and grab with both hands ALL that I love, all that is choice, all that brings joy... and share it!

The Power of Three

The number three has always been my favorite. And over the years, I have won things and been inspired by...the numbers 3, 13, and 33. It's been a talisman for addresses and hotel rooms, magically appearing over and over in my life. Three has been a powerful number through history and in scriptures and I respect both. So the other day, when my friend, Lyn, mentioned that she had a list of three things to do that day, my ears just perked up.

I decided I would set just three main household tasks for myself each day and see how it went. I've had this problem of having a HUGE long list one day... and then being so overwhelmed and exhausted from trying to complete all those things... that the next day, I'd do almost nothing! Well, three, being my mojo number... IS WORKING! Laundry, cupboards, drawers... I can handle three of anything with energy to complete more! Try it! (And let me know how it works for you.) Maybe three will soon be your favorite number, too!
